Voice Notes from Jennie

Welcome to the audio library. This is where I share short, raw, unpolished voice notes about life with anxiety, probable AuDHD, and the general chaos of being human.

These aren't professional recordings. They're not scripted. They're just me, talking into my phone, usually in my rented room, door locked, cup of tea going cold on the desk. Sometimes I'm mid-panic. Sometimes I'm mid-revelation. Sometimes I'm just trying to make sense of something and I thought you might want to sit with me while I do.

No fancy equipment. No editing. Just my voice, your ears, and a shared understanding that we're both just figuring this out.

How to listen: Click on any title below. You can listen right here on the site, or download the file to listen later. New voice notes appear whenever I have something to say and the energy to say it. No schedule. No pressure.

Voice Note 36: The History of Mental Health Treatments (Or: They Did WHAT to Your Brain?)

Duration: 9:02

A horrified ramble through the worst of psychiatric history: trepanning, malaria therapy, insulin comas, ECT, and the ice-pick lobotomy. Not for the faint-hearted. Very sweary.

Duration: 5:58

A longer, gentler ramble about Luna Lovegood, Newt Scamander, and why the magical creatures are the best part of the whole bloody universe.

Voice Note 34: The Infinite Calm

Duration: 0:43

On the strange, soothing comfort of looking at images of deep space, and why the cold, indifferent majesty of the cosmos is somehow less stressful than a phone call.

Voice Note 33: The Unread Book Pile

Duration: 0:50

On buying books I will absolutely, definitely read, and the spotless, carefully arranged shelf where they wait, untouched.

Voice Note 32: The Butterfly Phase

On my adult hyperfixation with space and the universe, and the existential crisis that comes from reading about black holes at 2am.

Voice Note 30: The Spotless Sanctuary

Duration: 0:54

On the absolute necessity of order in my room, and how a single misplaced item can make my entire nervous system feel like it's on fire.

Voice Note 29: The Lorry Scrapbook

Duration: 1:05

On my neighbour the lorry driver, the magazines he gave me, and the meticulously organised scrapbook of cut-out lorries that probably should have been a diagnostic clue.

Voice Note 28: The Roman Centurion Era

Duration: 0:55

On my childhood hyperfixation with Roman centurions, the specific armour terminology I still remember, and why a seven-year-old needed to know what a gladius was.

Voice Note 27: The Good Idea Fairy

Duration: 0:56

On the chaotic, late-night optimism of "Future Me," who apparently has boundless energy, no executive dysfunction, and a passion for meal prep.

Voice Note 26: The Random Access Cringe

Duration: 0:45

On the sudden, violent memory of something embarrassing you did in 1987, delivered by your brain at the worst possible moment.

On the Kafkaesque nightmare of being forced to change a password you've only just memorised, and the inevitable descent into shouting at a screen.

Voice Note 24: The Weather Wankers

On the seething, irrational rage that bubbles up when someone says, "Lovely weather we're having," and you have to pretend to care about the atmospheric pressure.

Duration: 0:58

On the seductive, false sense of achievement that comes from spending three hours on Pinterest, pinning recipes you will absolutely, definitely, 100% never make.

Voice Note 22: The Cascade of Doom

Duration: 0:37

On the domino effect of executive dysfunction, where one small task requires seventeen other tasks, so you just sit down and do absolutely nothing.

Voice Note 21: The Social Hangover

On the bone-deep exhaustion that follows a single, perfectly pleasant phone call, and the need to recover like you've run a marathon.

Voice Note 20: The Wrong Bin

Duration: 0:46

On putting something deeply important in a completely illogical place, and the inevitable, bewildered scavenger hunt that follows.

On the mysterious multiplying of tinned goods, and the slow realisation that the gremlin buying four jars of pesto every time I shop is me.

Duration: 0:42

On the unsettling moment you "wake up" and realise you've just navigated a roundabout, bought milk, or walked home without any conscious memory of doing it.

Voice Note 17: The Good Enough Day

Duration: 0:35

A tiny, genuine moment of self-compassion, wrapped in a shrug. For the days when "good enough" is the whole victory.

On the stark, humiliating difference between my intentions at 9am and my actions at 3pm.

On telling a complete stranger something wildly personal because they asked "how are you" and my brain forgot to filter.

On the unique paralysis of having an appointment at 3pm, and the inability to do anything at all until it's over.

Voice Note 11: The Useless Superpower

Duration: 0:53

On my one genuine talent: remembering exactly where a random object is, but only when the information is completely useless to anyone.

Duration: 0:48

On the disproportionate sense of achievement from finally unsubscribing from an email newsletter you never signed up for.

On feeling my phone buzz in my pocket, checking it, and discovering it was a complete fabrication of my anxious brain.

Duration: 0:56

On the specific, curated torture of having a terrible 90s pop song stuck in my head during a panic attack.

On the quiet, repetitive tragedy of reheating the same cup of tea three times and still not drinking it.

Voice Note 2: The 4am Panic

Duration: 2:01

Voice Note 1: A Reminder For Wobbly Days

Duration: 3:22

A short, gentle reminder you can save and replay when you're struggling. For the bad brain days, the panic hangovers, and the moments when you feel like you're failing (you're not).
