Share
All the warmth of a chai latte, in breakfast form. The spices—cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves—are steeped in the milk before mixing, infusing the oats with a deep, aromatic flavour. It’s the cosiest possible start to a cold morning.
Ingredients (Serves 1):
- 150ml milk of choice
- 1 chai tea bag (or ¼ tsp each of ground cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and a pinch of cloves)
- 50g rolled oats
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp chopped almonds
Method:
- Warm the milk gently with the tea bag or spices. Let it steep for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bag (or strain out the spices if you used ground ones).
- Mix the warm spiced milk with the oats, chia seeds, and maple syrup.
- Refrigerate overnight. Top with almonds.
Why it’s gut-friendly: The spices—cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves—are all carminative, aiding digestion and reducing inflammation. Oats and chia are prebiotic.
