Black Forest Overnight Oats

Black Forest Overnight Oats

Dark cherries, rich cocoa, and a swirl of thick yoghurt on top. This is the closest you’ll get to a Black Forest gateau for breakfast, but it’s packed with polyphenols and fibre. Use frozen cherries—they defrost overnight and bleed beautifully into the oats.

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 50g rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 150ml milk of choice (oat or almond is good)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 80g frozen dark cherries
  • 1 tbsp Greek yoghurt, to serve
  • A few dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Method:

  1. Mix the oats, chia seeds, cocoa, milk, and maple syrup. Fold in the frozen cherries.
  2. Refrigerate overnight.
  3. Serve topped with yoghurt and a few dark chocolate shavings if you’re feeling fancy.

Why it’s gut-friendly: Cocoa is a prebiotic, feeding good gut bacteria. Cherries are packed with polyphenols. Oats and chia add fibre.
