Mozzarella, Tomato & Basil Plate (Deconstructed Caprese)
Share
This is the laziest possible version of an Italian classic. No slicing, no layering. Just tear the mozzarella, halve the tomatoes, scatter with basil leaves, and anoint with olive oil and balsamic. It's fresh, creamy, and deeply satisfying.
Ingredients (Serves 1):
- 125g fresh mozzarella (the ball in water), drained and torn
- A large handful of cherry tomatoes, halved
- A handful of fresh basil leaves
- A generous drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
- A drizzle of balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Flaky sea salt and black pepper
Method:
- Arrange the torn mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil on a plate.
- Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic if using. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Eat immediately.
Why it's gut-friendly: Mozzarella is a fresh, easily digestible cheese. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant. Basil is anti-inflammatory. Olive oil supports the gut lining.
