Smoked Mackerel & Apple Salad

The combination of smoky fish and crisp, sweet apple is a classic for a reason. Toss with a lemony yoghurt dressing and some peppery rocket. Ready in five minutes.

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 1 smoked mackerel fillet, skin removed and flaked
  • 1 crisp apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • A large handful of rocket
  • 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt
  • 1 tsp horseradish sauce (optional)
  • Squeeze of lemon juice

Method:

  1. Whisk the yoghurt with the horseradish (if using), lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Toss the apple slices and rocket with the dressing.
  3. Top with the flaked mackerel.

Why it's gut-friendly: Mackerel is packed with omega-3s. Apple provides pectin. Yoghurt adds probiotics.
