Simple Smoked Mackerel Pâté on Ryvita

This is not cooking. This is assembly. Smoked mackerel, Greek yoghurt, lemon, and pepper, mashed together until it becomes a creamy, smoky pâté. It takes three minutes. It's packed with omega-3s. Spread it on Ryvita or any sturdy cracker, top with cucumber, and you've got lunch. It feels fancy. It's not.

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 1 smoked mackerel fillet, skin removed
  • 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Black pepper
  • Ryvita or oatcakes, to serve
  • Sliced cucumber, to serve

Method:

  1. Flake the mackerel into a bowl. Remove any bones you find.
  2. Add the yoghurt, lemon juice, and a generous grind of black pepper.
  3. Mash with a fork until combined but still slightly textured.
  4. Spread on Ryvita. Top with cucumber slices.
  5. Eat immediately.
