Mint & Fennel Digestive Tea

Mint & Fennel Digestive Tea

This is the tea I make after a big meal, or when my stomach feels bloated and unhappy. Fennel seeds are the secret weapon here—they taste faintly of aniseed and are brilliant for settling digestion. The mint adds freshness.

Why it's gut-friendly: Fennel seeds are carminative, meaning they help reduce bloating and gas. Peppermint relaxes the digestive tract and relieves cramping.

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • A small handful of fresh mint leaves (or 1 peppermint tea bag)
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)
  • 250ml hot water

Method:

  1. Lightly crush the fennel seeds with the back of a spoon or a mortar and pestle—just enough to release their oils.
  2. Place the crushed fennel seeds and mint leaves in a mug or teapot.
  3. Pour over the hot water and let steep for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Strain into a mug (or remove the tea bag if using).
  5. Stir in honey if using.
  6. Sip slowly.
