Warming Prune & Cinnamon Compote with Yoghurt

Warming Prune & Cinnamon Compote with Yoghurt

Prunes get a bad rap. They're associated with elderly relatives and digestive issues. But they're also delicious—sweet, rich, and incredibly good for your gut. Stewed gently with cinnamon and a splash of orange juice, they become a glossy, jammy compote that's perfect spooned over yoghurt.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • 150g pitted prunes
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Greek yoghurt or coconut yoghurt to serve
  • A sprinkle of chopped pistachios (optional)

Method:

  1. Put the prunes, orange juice, cinnamon, and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low.
  3. Cover and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the prunes are soft and the liquid is syrupy.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick. Mash the prunes slightly with a fork if you want a chunkier texture.
  5. Serve warm or cold, spooned over yoghurt with a sprinkle of pistachios.

Why it's gut-friendly: Prunes are famous for their digestive benefits—they contain sorbitol and fibre that support regularity. Yoghurt adds probiotics. Orange juice provides vitamin C.
