Warming Prune & Cinnamon Compote with Yoghurt
Share
Prunes get a bad rap. They're associated with elderly relatives and digestive issues. But they're also delicious—sweet, rich, and incredibly good for your gut. Stewed gently with cinnamon and a splash of orange juice, they become a glossy, jammy compote that's perfect spooned over yoghurt.
Ingredients (Serves 2):
- 150g pitted prunes
- Juice of 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp ground cinnamon)
- 2 tbsp water
- Greek yoghurt or coconut yoghurt to serve
- A sprinkle of chopped pistachios (optional)
Method:
- Put the prunes, orange juice, cinnamon, and water in a small saucepan.
- Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low.
- Cover and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the prunes are soft and the liquid is syrupy.
- Remove the cinnamon stick. Mash the prunes slightly with a fork if you want a chunkier texture.
- Serve warm or cold, spooned over yoghurt with a sprinkle of pistachios.
Why it's gut-friendly: Prunes are famous for their digestive benefits—they contain sorbitol and fibre that support regularity. Yoghurt adds probiotics. Orange juice provides vitamin C.
